case studies

Online Case studies Are you interested in tackling a realistic design problem with a company of your interest? The case studies allow you to solve challenging problems set up by the respective company. This case study will be an online workshop where you will make a design or plan in teams. More information of which companies are participating will come soon! Groosman May 12th 14:00 till 17:00 The content might change, because of its new online form. Groosman specializes in creating interesting places in the city. We give places that have fallen into disuse an upgrade. This is exactly what we will be doing during the case study. In the workshop we will ask you to think of a place in the city that could use an upgrade. Along with your teammates you will make a plan to enliven the space. This could be a large observation tower but also just a small pavilion. Through sketch drawings and scale models you will present your design to the rest of the group. ABT May 12th 14:00 till 16:00 The content might change, because of its new online form. Crossover Architecture – Engineering, theme Value of design “There are some things engineers can't do. For everything else, there's ABT. This year we will be challenging you with a case that combines environmental and social matters. We want to expand on the simple idea that materials obtained from a product at the end of its short cycle can be transformed to material for building which last much longer and, at the same time, use this potential in building components in order to improve and guarantee today's housing demand. To achieve the best result, you have to think out of the box and that is what we do at ABT.’’
Van Wijnen May 12th 15:30 till 17:00 The content might change, because of its new online form. During the shortage in housing of the ‘50 and ‘60, a lot of terraced houses were built, because they were easy and cheap to build. This was later repeated when Vinex quarters where built. To meet the current demand for housing Fijn Wonen was developed by Van Wijnen. It is a standardized version of the terraced house where changes can be on the inside. The outside however is still very monotonous. To make the built environment more dynamic and sustainable we want to change this. This could be done by using different facade materials, color and adding for example a roof garden. During the workshop you will take the role of the designer and developer and design a terraced house that is both diverse and can be built with prefab materials.
